<Zerks>Â Â Â I recently updated jquery to the latest on our site, and a handful of users have started having issues with some sections in firefox (sections that inject html and javascript into the dom after an ajax request; the injected javascript function winds up not being defined)

<codeshah>Â Â Â coldhead: k thx
<coldhead>Â Â Â then pour yourself a manhattan
<juha_>Â Â Â add_fuckin_slashes
<DetroitDogs>   BinaryKitten: Actually, I have no choice. Because there is an element under the mouse (following the cursor), event.target will be set to that. I will have to destroy that element on mouseup, then use document.elementFromPoint()
<codeshah>Â Â Â juha_: ?
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â DetroitDogs drag/drop?
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â if so would recommend offsetting the moving item
<juha_>Â Â Â codeshah: i meant encode the url, forget about adding slashes
<juha_>Â Â Â i’m drunk and so on
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: Yeah, drag/drop. And offsetting isn’t an option due to aesthetic need.
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â And we are also using touchstart/touchend
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â Where the item will be under their finger
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â ah
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â the drag move happens after cursor move right?
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â i mean you update the position via mousemove?
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: Yeah
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â DetroitDogs store the last item
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â I could have used ondragenter/ondrop events, but it doesn’t seem to work well on the iPad
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â eg from teh mousemove store the event.target
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â then on mouseup use that
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: Well, I know what is being moved. But I don’t know what is being “dropped on”
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â dropped on would be the last item you’ve moved the item over
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â you can’t drop it on something if you don’t move over it right?
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: Right, I gotcha.
<DetroitDogs>Â Â Â That’s a good idea if I decide to avoid document.elementFromPoint()

<kul>Â Â Â I want to call bigimg() after everything else loads and that too just 1ce
<kul>Â Â Â Thanks patbam ![]()
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: What I do is load multiple audio tags at once, autoplay the first one, then $(“audio”).bind(“ended”,function(){ $(this).next(“audio”)[0].play(); });
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: hmm, so you just have one media file and a separate <audio> for each clip?
<kul>Â Â Â tbranyen: ?
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: Something like this: <audio src=”song1.mp3″ autoplay preload></audio><audio src=”song2.mp3″ preload></audio>
<BinaryKitten>   Zxurian http://jsfiddle.net/8Aqxw/
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: Just keep adding as many audio tags as you need and run the javascript I wrote above
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: oh i see. but this is actually my problem: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7701346/ so i’m constrained to use a single audio file
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: Oh, I see.
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: You can change $(“audio”)[0].currentTime to a time in milliseconds when you want to play a part of the sound
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â Zxurian ?
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: yeah… i have managed to play a single clip, the problem is queueing them
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: also, queueing is incredibly hard to spell ![]()
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: You’ll then need to work out how long the sound goes for, do a pause(), skip to next time, play() and repeat
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: i see. it just seems like this is what $.queue is for — not running one function till another is over
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: Yes, but I’m not sure how we would use that with audio
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: hmm yeah, seems tricky. thanks, i’ll look around a bit more
<monmon3>Â Â Â I made a little cat animation using canvas, on mouseover it’s eyes get beady, and i want it to onmouseout make the eyes get big again
<monmon3>Â Â Â http://wheatpondkingfir.com/cat.html
<monmon3>Â Â Â but i cant figure out the right way to do it
<thekirbylover>   patbam: I think you can do a “return $.fn.sleep(1000)†to pause for 1000ms
<monmon3>Â Â Â if i call the opposite of that function basically onmouseout, it goes crazy because the beady() function is still trying to make the eyes small
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: hmm, that’s interesting. i saw something called “$.delay” too, which seems similar
<monmon3>   is there a better way to do this? i feel like im missing something obvious
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: you know what would make this really easy, would be if the .play method in the js api for <audio> objects would take [start, stop] arguments
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â delay doesn’t pause between thingss unless they are queued
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: I’ll have a look at the jquery docs
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: Yeah, that’d be really good
<Zxurian>Â Â Â reviewing it now BK
<Zxurian>Â Â Â hm… I saw that in my google searches
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: i wonder how such things are decided
<Zxurian>Â Â Â was hoping there was a way to do it without traversing through each node
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: Found it: http://api.jquery.com/delay/
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â in theory you’re not exactly traversing every node any more than any other code would
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â patbam: So try something like $(“audio”)[0].play();return $.fn.delay(2000);
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â thekirbylover that won’t work
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â $.fn.delay is not meant to work like that
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â it’s used to delay between queued items
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: Hm, ok.
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: I would’ve thought because we’re using the jquery queue, it would work.
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â where are you using that?
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â sorry, might have missed soemthing
<patbam>Â Â Â thekirbylover: thanks, trying it
<monmon3>Â Â Â If I call a function on mouseover, do i have to do anything to get it to stop being called on mouseout?
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â unbind monmon3
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â thekirbylover … can you show me the code that uses queue?
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: Just a minute
<monmon3>   BinaryKitten: sorry, i should have been more clear. not using jquery, just javascript, so it’s like <input onmouseover=”small()” onmouseout=”big()”>
<monmon3>Â Â Â small() and big() are both functions that manipulate canvas
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â that’s not js that’s html
<monmon3>Â Â Â err right, html to call two javascript functions, small() and big()
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â html auto binds
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â try unbind anyway
<monmon3>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: OK, thanks!
<monmon3>Â Â Â ill give it a try
<thekirbylover>   BinaryKitten: Here’s patbam’s code: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7701346/ and I’m telling him to use “return $.fn.delay(1000)†at the end of a queue function
<kul>Â Â Â can any1 help me with my query ?

<kul>Â Â Â I want load 1 function last ! and that function must be loaded just 1ce

<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â ah i see
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â don’t return delay
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â call it after
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â in chain
<thekirbylover>Â Â Â BinaryKitten: Ok, we’ll try that
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â eg item.queue(function() { this.play(); }).delay(’1000′)

<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â instantiated
<BinaryKitten>Â Â Â or used?

<youtnodknoem>Â Â Â i tried .click()
<youtnodknoem>Â Â Â .bind() and .live()
<youtnodknoem>Â Â Â everything seems to return the same thing..it only binds the very last jQuery selector
<Zerks>Â Â Â is it that the click event is only bound to the last div, or that each div has basically the same click event (they all toggle the last tag instead of their own tag_id)
<youtnodknoem>Â Â Â sorry yes
<youtnodknoem>Â Â Â the second
<youtnodknoem>Â Â Â Each div does the same thing, which is toggle the last div on/off
<Zerks>   i feel like I’ve had this happen to myself already… and i think it was because of resetting those vars within the loop, inside the same scope, so each bound function is affected. if what I’m saying isn’t wrong, I can’t remember the proper way to do it, but I may have done it on one of my sites and I will check
<youtnodknoem>Â Â Â Zerks — interesting! I thought resetting the variable each time would just create a new copy and leave the old one well enough alone

<youtnodknoem2>Â Â Â whew

<Zerks>Â Â Â it was using the variable from that scope when the function was initiated, which means the variable always had the last value given to it, I guess

<Chani>Â Â Â I have a table with id=”input”, and I’m trying to select all the cells.. can someone tell me why this isn’t working? $(‘#index td’).css(“border”, “2px solid #a44″);
<Chani>Â Â Â n/m. typo. ![]()
<Chani>Â Â Â ahh crap. I fixed the id and it still doesn’t do anything!
<Chani>Â Â Â what’s the next silly mistake?
<Spadeski>Â Â Â lol
<Spadeski>Â Â Â Chani need some help ?
<cypha>Â Â Â i have this script, and I can’t tell why the value of “data” isn’t going into #status http://paste.ofcode.org/b6NUZ6Zz2vy89kLMgQmuTW
<Chani>Â Â Â got it! ![]()
*Â Â Â Chani had tr, not td
<Chani>Â Â Â although that means tr’s can’t have borders. hrm.
<Chani>Â Â Â next problem: what I *actually* wanted to set was the bg color, but that wasn’t working for me eralier, neither bgColor nor backgroundColor
<cypha>Â Â Â i have this script, and I can’t tell why the value of “data” isn’t going into #status http://paste.ofcode.org/b6NUZ6Zz2vy89kLMgQmuTW (and here is a live link–> http://68.198.22.26:8000/ ) you can log in with xyz:xyz
<Chani>Â Â Â oh… backgroundColor works now. o.0
<Chani>Â Â Â now I need to select the Ith cell in the Jth row. how would I do that?
<Chani>Â Â Â weird, backgroundColor works from code but not from <style>
<mooKoo>Â Â Â is anyone here familiar with notepad++?
<Chani>Â Â Â cypha: I can’t figure that out either ![]()
<coldhead>Â Â Â cypha: is console.log(data) working?
<coldhead>Â Â Â inside that post callback?
<coldhead>Â Â Â can you see the data in the log?
<coldhead>Â Â Â if so, then try using ‘some string’ instead of data
<cypha“>Â Â Â not sure what console.log is. but I can type “data” in the console, and I see the value Object {‘username’:xyz}
<coldhead>Â Â Â to see if it’s updating at all
<coldhead>Â Â Â console.log causes data to be dumped in the firebug console
<coldhead>Â Â Â or equivalent

<cypha>Â Â Â coldhead, it seems to have erratic behavior
<cypha>Â Â Â sometimes it doesn’t work at all

<coldhead>Â Â Â hi Spadesy
<Chani>Â Â Â is there an easy way to select a column from a table, or am I better off adding some column=foo to the cell that I can select on?
<coldhead>Â Â Â html tables are row oriented
<coldhead>Â Â Â if you want to seelect the nth cell of every row
<Spadeski>Â Â Â lol
<coldhead>Â Â Â maybe use
<coldhead>Â Â Â ?nth-child
<bot-t>Â Â Â :nth-child(index/even/odd/equation): Selects all elements that are the nth-child of their parent. http://api.jquery.com/nth-child-selector/

<kornerr>Â Â Â is there a method to set data of an html element?
<kornerr>Â Â Â i haven’t found one

<kornerr>Â Â Â Spadeski: hm. it wants <DOCTYPE and the rest
<Spadeski>Â Â Â should

<Spadeski>Â Â Â idk make it more clear

<kornerr>Â Â Â when i click on a link, i want my p element get text of that link address
<kornerr>Â Â Â which is body of html, not complete html
<kornerr>Â Â Â Spadeski: it’s .html() i was looking for

<ndss56>Â Â Â coldhead: more importantly why is the text “row one” not visible?
<Zxurian>Â Â Â is there a shorthand method of binding a click event to anywhere BUT the target element?
<Zxurian>Â Â Â like $(“#foo”).click(function(){ do_this(); }); for when someone clicks inside the #foo element, is there a way to see if a user clicks anywhere except #foo
<ndss56>Â Â Â Zxurian: yes
<Zxurian>Â Â Â ndss: can I have a hint?
<ndss56>Â Â Â Zxurian: yes
<ddoom>Â Â Â :not
<ndss56>Â Â Â Zxurian: something like on mouseup() check if #foo was clicked if not then you know
<ddoom>Â Â Â Zxurian: I could be wrong but try $(‘:not(#foo)’).click(…)
<Zxurian>Â Â Â so… bind to the mouseup event on the document, then inside that, check to see if the click was actually inside #foo?
<Zxurian>Â Â Â ddom: I don’t think :not (or .not()) would work, as that would bind the click even to every other element but #foo, which I really don’t want to do
<ddoom>Â Â Â Zxurian: what DO you want to do?
<ndss56>Â Â Â Zxurian: add a class when #foo is clicked and check for that.
<Zxurian>Â Â Â ndss: i’m trying to get the opposite, I need to see if when the mouse is clicked, it wasn’t inside #foo
<Zxurian>Â Â Â ddom: using .not() would bind a click event to every element within the dom, so if there are 100 elements, thats 100 click events added. I’m trying to see if tehre’s just a global “cliked anywhere but <here>” method or event
<ndss56>Â Â Â Zxurian: i understand your problem, and i’ve given you the solution. obviously if the class is not added then it hasn’t been clicked.
<Zxurian>Â Â Â bah, missed the class comment, should’ve done that earlier, I’ve used it before
<Zxurian>Â Â Â i guess I was just wondering from a language sense whether it was possible to detect a click event anyere “but” a location, instead of registering a click on the document and testing for a class instead

<nVee>Â Â Â hey guys. Is there a function like click() for when a user “checks” or “unchecks” a checkbox?
<Zxurian>Â Â Â you can use the .click() event on the checkbox
<Zxurian>Â Â Â then check for the value within the .click() function
<nVee>Â Â Â ah, and then validate
<Zxurian>Â Â Â yup
<nVee>Â Â Â is there a better what that $(“input[name='inputname']:checked”) to check if the value is checked or not?
<nVee>Â Â Â purely out of curiousity ![]()
<NodeX>Â Â Â $().is(“:checked”) is boolean
<Zxurian>Â Â Â yeaup
<Zxurian>Â Â Â if ($(this).is(“:checked”)) { do_this(); } else { do_that(); }

<drublic>Â Â Â nVee, right!
<nVee>Â Â Â pretty soon you guys will ask me for advise ![]()
<nVee>Â Â Â hahaha
<Spadeski>Â Â Â nVee Yeah I hope too see it
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â you might also bind to the change event
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â instead of the click event
<Spadeski>Â Â Â Means were doing well
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â in case someone uses a keyboard
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â yay accessibility
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â cc nVee Zxurian
<nVee>Â Â Â SlexAxton: mind to explain? Sorry ![]()
<nVee>Â Â Â by way of example
<nVee>Â Â Â bind sounds cool, I want to use it as well ![]()
<ravenzz>Â Â Â checkboxes = change status on click
<ravenzz>Â Â Â so bind change()
<Zxurian>Â Â Â change will fire whenever the value is changed, click will fire whenever it registers a mouse click regardless if the value was changed or not
<drublic>Â Â Â nVee, use $(selector).change(function(){ do_stuff });
<drublic>Â Â Â instead of ‘click’ use ‘change’
<NodeX>Â Â Â bad idea
<nVee>Â Â Â I see
<Zxurian>Â Â Â I don’t think there’s a difference with checkboxes, since a click will automatically be a change, but for things like select & text, there is a difference
<NodeX>Â Â Â use click on radio’s / checks
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â why is it a bad idea?
<NodeX>Â Â Â change on select’s
<Spadeski>Â Â Â Does that work on images like if I changed the source of one ?
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â because you hate people who fill out forms with their keyboard?
<drublic>Â Â Â I’m with SlexAxton on this
<ravenzz>Â Â Â me too
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â (so is the rest of the internet)
<drublic>Â Â Â ![]()
<NodeX>Â Â Â that’s nioce
<NodeX>Â Â Â nice *
<Zxurian>Â Â Â Spadeski: no
<Spadeski>Â Â Â Damn
<ravenzz>Â Â Â I even use keyboard to fill forms
<Zxurian>Â Â Â ooh, good point Slex
<NodeX>Â Â Â go make a form with 2 radios and apply a change to them and see what happends ![]()
<NodeX>Â Â Â happens*
<nVee>Â Â Â Change() sounds like a feasible solution, but is it not the same result? I mean by defauly my checkbox could be unchecked, so change could work if I really only want the user to be able to tick it once? But what happens if they tick it again (unchecks)
<Zxurian>Â Â Â hadn’t even thought about keyboard filling, and I constantly use keyboard to fill out forms
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â NodeX: go bind a click event to a radio button and let me fill it out with my keyboard and let me know what happens
<nVee>Â Â Â would I not have 2 change functions
<NodeX>Â Â Â neither work properly for either… but 90% of the internet use a mouse to form fill
<NodeX>Â Â Â so I go with the 90% not the 10% die hards
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â NodeX: oh, cool, glad you have that stat
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â probably don’t need a reference
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â use change nVee – it works
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â don’t try to delegate it though
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â or if you do, don’t do anything crazy
<howtos>Â Â Â Could someone help me find the google maps data in a mashup inside a frame?
<red>Â Â Â In D7, how do I create a query that shows me attached files based on nid?
<red>Â Â Â trying to look thru tables to find the connecting id’s but not seeing it
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â nVee: if you’re worried
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â ?change
<bot-t>Â Â Â .change(handler): Bind an event handler to the “change” JavaScript event, or trigger that event on an element. http://api.jquery.com/change/
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â see the line that says
<howtos>Â Â Â also, I don’t think this is jquery related, but how do I save google maps to KML, just add &output=kml to the end of the URL
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â For select boxes, checkboxes, and radio buttons, the event is fired immediately when the user makes a selection with the mouse, but for the other element types the event is deferred until the element loses focus.
<nVee>Â Â Â SlexAxton: I will use it, however, does change revert to default when it is “unchanged”?
<nVee>Â Â Â in most checkbox cases one of 2 things need to happen
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â it only fires when something changes
<nVee>Â Â Â let me test it quickly
<Zxurian>Â Â Â interesting….. using keyboard on form elements still fires the click() event
<red>Â Â Â (I know the fid of the file and nid of the node)
<ravenzz>Â Â Â nVee http://jsfiddle.net/Y8QmK/
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â he didn’t even ask about radio buttons to be honest
<ravenzz>Â Â Â ^
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â NodeX just started talking about them incorrectly to scare him, i guess
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â go for the fake 90% bro, all the cool kids are doing it
<NodeX>Â Â Â Not incorrectly
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â lol

*Â Â Â ChanServ gives channel operator status to SlexAxton
<Zxurian>Â Â Â well i wouldn’t say it’s silly
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â i really would
<NodeX>Â Â Â here ciomes the +b for me
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â only if you keep making stuff up to tell to people

<ravenzz>Â Â Â +banana
<SlexAxton>Â Â Â “neither work properly for either… but 90% of the internet use a mouse to form fill”

<cambrian-re>Â Â Â Greetings. I am using .getJSON() to submit a form and return a JSON on a filtered dataset based on the form data. However, I am getting undefined index errors because the post data is not there. What am I doing wrong here: https://gist.github.com/bf288e5bdbe20ef6e3af … I appreciate your help.
<NodeX>Â Â Â what’s the error you get
<phrozen_>Â Â Â I have one more question, what is wrong with my alert on change at input http://mtechnology.itl.pl/js/ I can not see alert. This sript is in document ready section so it should “see” inpts
<cambrian-re>Â Â Â NodeX
<cambrian-re>Â Â Â NodeX: Notice: Undefined index: filterBy1 in …
<NodeX>Â Â Â thsat’s a php error
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â prefered function for popup bubbles?
<NodeX>Â Â Â so your script is spitting out an error and is effecting the JSON
<NodeX>Â Â Â ergo seding back BAD json to the getJSON
<cambrian-re>Â Â Â Yes, I know … The problem is that the .getJSON call, which I pass the form data to, is not passing it trough the AJAX call.
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: the load() function is async
<NodeX>Â Â Â pastebin the whole form
<NodeX>Â Â Â you need to listen on submit() and prevent the default action
<phrozen_>Â Â Â Segaja ok … thank you … so how can I solve this problem? paste this script to the html where I have a form?
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: the .load() function should have a complete() callback that you can use
<Segaja>Â Â Â read the docs about it
<phrozen_>Â Â Â ok I will try
<Segaja>Â Â Â also it is normal that you have no url in your load() function?
<phrozen_>Â Â Â no it is not
<Segaja>Â Â Â and the e at the end of line 10 just looks wrong
<cambrian-re>Â Â Â NodeX: https://gist.github.com/78c7aa4c205b27537db2
<phrozen_>Â Â Â but it is temp solution … I am learning jQuery becouse I forgot 90% functions
<rapha>Â Â Â Hi all!
<cambrian-re>Â Â Â NodeX: .getJSON call is line 324 …
<rapha>Â Â Â There seem to be quite a number of forum threads on multiple drop targets, but all without answers. Is it at all possible to have multiple drop targets, and if so, is there an example of it somewhere?
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: anyway… http://api.jquery.com/load/
<rapha>Â Â Â (i.e. a table with each cell being its own drop target)
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: ah my mistake. your syntax is fine
*Â Â Â Damianos_ is now known as Damianos
<phrozen_>Â Â Â ok so I can input to complete this function which is checking is load complete? 2 sec and I will try show what I mean
<phrozen_>Â Â Â no probably it is wrong becouse load is not working now ![]()
<phrozen_>Â Â Â hmmm Segaja do you know how solve it?
<cambrian-re>Â Â Â NodeX: Do you see any issues with how I am passing the form data?
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: i would try this (untestet): http://pastie.org/private/5k8cvapgsq72ovlht5wqmw
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: the complete is an anoymous function, so it would be $(‘#invoiceForm’).load(‘invoice_address_form.html #invoiceForm’, function() { … });
<phrozen_>Â Â Â I think this is ok …
<phrozen_>Â Â Â thank you
<Segaja>Â Â Â as long as you are not just copying it but also understand it ![]()
<phrozen_>Â Â Â Segaja ok
it is understoodable ![]()
<kborchers>Â Â Â phrozen_: what is the issue you’re having?
<phrozen_>Â Â Â I am programming in python and I do not want repeat yourself, so I prepared 2 kinds of forms with inheritattion and now I need a bit of jQuery
<phrozen_>Â Â Â http://mtechnology.itl.pl/js/
<phrozen_>Â Â Â I want to learn it but it is quite hard for me ![]()
<kborchers>Â Â Â so is the issue that binding to the change event of your inputs isn’t working?
<Segaja>Â Â Â it works now
<Segaja>Â Â Â his error was that load() is working async
<Segaja>Â Â Â and therefore at the time the .change() was bound the forms wheren’t there yet
<phrozen_>   yea in this event I need t check isUpdated now
and I am trying to do it alone to understand jQuery API ![]()
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â how would i notate parent of this
<Segaja>Â Â Â .parentNode() ?
<Segaja>Â Â Â aeh .parent()
<phrozen_>Â Â Â .parent()
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â ah right
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â thanks
<Segaja>Â Â Â .parentNode() was the DOM way ![]()
<gnarf>Â Â Â not really
<gnarf>Â Â Â because its not a function
<gnarf>Â Â Â ![]()
<phrozen_>Â Â Â Segaja … is it corect notyfication $(this).next(‘#id_isUpdated’).val()
<Oldskool>Â Â Â Hey guys, I’m trying to exclude one td from triggering it’s parent tr event. I now have: jQuery(“tr”).not(“td.actions”).click(function() { /* event here */ }); .. but it’s still binding to that td aswell
<Segaja>Â Â Â right. ok i didn’t do plain DOM in a long time ![]()
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â var title = $(this).parent().class();
<runemb>Â Â Â Hi all, how can I execute a jQuery function when a PHP file download is started or completed? I initiate the file download with HTTP headers.
<Oldskool>Â Â Â .. any suggestions for alternatives?
<gnarf>Â Â Â jeffsmykil: .class() isn’t a jQuery function… perhaps you want .prop( “className” )?
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â that would probably work
<Segaja>Â Â Â Oldskool: e.prventDefault() ?
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: what do you want to do?
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â would attr(class) also work?
<Segaja>Â Â Â next() gives you the next sibling
<gnarf>Â Â Â runemb: you wont get much traction with that idea
<gnarf>Â Â Â runemb: its just not very possible to monitor the status of a file download via JavaScript
<phrozen_>Â Â Â To do all what I need 1. Check isUpdated in form which was updated, then when someone leave the form I have to send post
<runemb>Â Â Â gnarf: since I’m doing force download of file with HTTP headers – can I listen for HTTP header change?
<phrozen_>Â Â Â so I have to check correct check box
<phrozen_>Â Â Â first
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: since you use some of the same form twice you have one ID two times in your html source. this is not a good idea
<danzik17>   Oldskool: Well, .not won’t do a thing in your selector. The ‘tr’ selector won’t match ‘td.actions’, so your .not is just going to return the same set
<phrozen_>Â Â Â I know but i need something like that… I have different divs which have forms
<gnarf>Â Â Â runemb: again, not really – I looked into it a while back, its not simple…
<phrozen_>Â Â Â so probably better idea is find parend div which have unique name
<runemb>Â Â Â Oldskool: $(‘td’).not(‘td.actions’) should work
<phrozen_>Â Â Â and then #invoiceForm form input#id_isUpdated
<phrozen_>Â Â Â it should be nice
<gnarf>Â Â Â phrozen_: won’t work – ID’s MUST BE unique
<runemb>Â Â Â gnarf: alright, thanks, you didn’t find an alternative solution?
<Oldskool>Â Â Â runemb: I figured that too, but unfortunately the .click() event doesn’t seem to bind to td
<gnarf>Â Â Â the selector engine will crap out if they aren’t and not return what you expect
<Oldskool>Â Â Â which also makes it tough to filter on td
<gnarf>Â Â Â phrozen_: use classes instead
<gnarf>Â Â Â runemb: nope
<phrozen_>Â Â Â I can not … it is generated automatically at my system … so I have to rebuild my forms
<phrozen_>Â Â Â it is quite not good but …
<phrozen_>Â Â Â ok I will do that …
<Segaja>Â Â Â phrozen_: you could try to select the element by name=”isUpdated”
<Segaja>Â Â Â or something
<gnarf>Â Â Â yeah, using attr selectors on name is your next best choice
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â Is there a better way to not show another popup if one is already being shown besides searching the whole dom for the popups class?
<gnarf>Â Â Â you could also use jQuery to fix your duplicate ID issue

<ccmonsters>Â Â Â I’ve got a prototype from some douche that is decent in many regards, but absolutely HORRIBLE from a management, efficiency standpoint
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â well why don’t u whack together a good demo page, some good api docs and post it back on here for us to look
<Robbington>Â Â Â I have a list of elements with the same class. when you click one it should append a div on the end, but clicking the same link more than once appends the div the next element with the same class and again and again etc. How can I stop this?
<surial>Â Â Â jQuery is acting in a non-deterministic fashion. I’m trying to make stable headers in a table, and the first step is to apply elem.width(elem.width()); to a bunch of TD elements, after which I’m going to detach all tbody rows and house them in a new table, which will be scrollable. However, seemingly randomly this works and doesn’t work. I’m guessing jQuery’s “document loaded” is firing too early. Any ideas?
<seutje>Â Â Â key feature about jquery tools is that it includes jQuery itself!
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â That’s what I assume I’ll do, and the feedback should be enough to keep me from going the jquery tools route *praytell*
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â that’s a key feature indeed ![]()
<surial>Â Â Â If I shove it all in a setTimeout() with a 1500 timeout it never fails.
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â hah seutje . oh my
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â timeout fail coming in…
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â so if u want to use a later version of jq, there ye go lol
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â I feel my automata module content coming back into my head
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â wtf is that ?
*Â Â Â qom2_ is now known as qom2
<makara>Â Â Â Hi. I’m looking for a JS routine which can give more than 360 degrees mousedown around a point
<makara>Â Â Â So if I click and hold and then move the mouse around and around a point on the screen it will just keep adding degrees and not reset to zero when I pass 360 degrees every time
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â ? demo @ makara
<bot-t>Â Â Â makara, Please create a live (working) demo of your problem on http://jsfiddle.net or provide a link to your site with instructions on how to reproduce the issue.
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â or provide some links of some sort.
<quicksilver>Â Â Â sounds like a simple enough problem
*Â Â Â Nuck is now known as NuckOff
<quicksilver>Â Â Â store current degrees in mousemove in a variable
<quicksilver>Â Â Â and if current degrees is more than 180 away from new degrees, add enough multiples of 360
<quicksilver>Â Â Â (each iteration of mousemove)
<makara>Â Â Â i’
<makara>Â Â Â i’m looking for links myself
<makara>Â Â Â it must be able to go backwards too
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â What up mothas!!! Yeah, you know it!!!! Dual Detroit be in the hou-www-se!
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â hahah
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â sup DD
<makara>Â Â Â i could divide into 4 quadrants and then detect where the mouse was in the last one
<makara>Â Â Â just thought I saw this done before….somewhere
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â So, what happens if I put jquery in my jquery? Specifically, I use $ inside my jquery plugin: jQuery.fn.funplugin = function() { $(“bodu }
<quicksilver>Â Â Â I think my description works fine for backwards and forwards.
<quicksilver>Â Â Â but it’s a programming question not jquery related ![]()
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â whats the function to check the type of variable?
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â Actually:: jQuery.fn.funplugin = function() { $(“body”).text(“Oh yeah! Droppin some jquery in my jquery!”)
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â jeffsmykil: typeof
<quicksilver>Â Â Â DualDetroit: wrap your whole plugin fine in (function($) { … all code here … }) (jQuery)
<surial>Â Â Â Okay, I figured out the problem with the indeterminism. It depends on whether the images are cached or not. Is there a way to WAIT until running some javascript until certain images are loaded?
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â jeffsmykil: But that’s just plain old ECMAScript
<surial>Â Â Â I guess I can hardcode width/height, too.
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â ty
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â DualDetroit: you’re *extending* jQuery
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â quicksilver: That sounds reasonable, but what happens if you don’t? Because this does actually work.
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â right
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â so you can just use jQuery
<GeO`>Â Â Â hey
<quicksilver>Â Â Â DualDetroit: then you have written a plugin which won’t work for people who use jQuery.noconflict
<makara>Â Â Â quicksilver, not sure I understand your method?
<quicksilver>Â Â Â DualDetroit: as you are assuming a global $ will exist.
<GeO`>Â Â Â is there a way to copy something into the user’s clipboard ?
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â what if u just use an internal reference
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â quicksilver: I guess so ![]()
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â var $j = jQuery;
<quicksilver>Â Â Â makara: recalculate current rotation every time mousemove is called.
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â or just use “jQuery”
<quicksilver>Â Â Â makara: assume it’s not possible to move more than 180 between calls to mousemove
<quicksilver>Â Â Â makara: adjust by multiples of 360 as necessary.
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â yes
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â DualDetroit: this is what you do, u wrap it in a closure
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â aaronmcadam: I see.
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â aaronmcadam: And I’m also using another one of my jquery plugins inside my jquery plugin.
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â DualDetroit: (function ( $ ) { …. use $ in here to reference jquery })( jQuery )
<makara>Â Â Â quicksilver, I want to keep track of the number of degrees this thing has turned
<quicksilver>Â Â Â yes.
<quicksilver>Â Â Â makara: I know. And that is what my answer is sketching out.
<quicksilver>Â Â Â DualDetroit: sounds better when aaronmcadam says it, doesn’t it ? ![]()
<GeO`>Â Â Â is there a way to copy something into the user’s clipboard ?
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â hha
<quicksilver>Â Â Â makara: you store current rotation in a variable. You update it each mousemove event. YOu assume it’s impossible to move more than 180 degrees per event, and therefore you adjust by multiples of 360 as necessary.
<quicksilver>Â Â Â I don’t think I’ll say it again. Three times is enough.
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â hahaa
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â i like ur style quicksilver
<aaronmcadam>   or just use the rotation plugin makara ![]()

<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â jeffsebring: is name a string?
<CantUnplug>Â Â Â quicksilver – yes, $(this) works.. just be aware of scope when in nested functions/etc.
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â aaronmcadam:Â both ints I checked
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â why is .name an int?
<aaronmcadam>Â Â Â it implies it should be a string
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â wait no name is an array of ints

<gnarf>Â Â Â sadmicrowave: also, what backend?
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â JSON.stringify isnt working for me – the php side returns NULL
<gnarf>Â Â Â okay
<shodan45>Â Â Â anyone know why .trigger(‘receive’, …) doesn’t work on a .sortable() element?
<gnarf>Â Â Â so like two ways
<kborchers>Â Â Â you could just serailize it to arrayElem[]=blah&arrayElem[]=wat…. and PHP will see that as an array
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â NotHere: It’snot an attribute
<gnarf>Â Â Â 1: a bunch of <input type=”hidden” name=”something[]” value=”first”><input type=”hidden” name=”something[]” value=”second”>
<gnarf>Â Â Â if you need to use the browser to send the form post instead of ajax
<NotHere>Â Â Â DualDetroit, sorry. I’m new to jquery/javascript. How do I check for a property?
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â NotHere: The only way I know is to loop through all img elements with $(“img”).get(i).complete
<gnarf>Â Â Â the jQuery serializeObject function should handle your arrays correctly though
<NotHere>Â Â Â ah, ok
<gnarf>Â Â Â ?serializeObject
<bot-t>   Whereas jQuery’s built-in .serializeArray() method serializes a form into an array, .serializeObject() serializes a form into an (arguably more useful) object. http://benalman.com/projects/jquery-misc-plugins/#serializeobject
<gnarf>Â Â Â hrm
<gnarf>Â Â Â wrong func
<gnarf>Â Â Â ?param
<bot-t>Â Â Â jQuery.param(obj): Create a serialized representation of an array or object, suitable for use in a URL query string or Ajax request. http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.param/
<gnarf>Â Â Â also
<gnarf>Â Â Â i’ve often just used myArray.join(“;;”); then explode() on the php side
<gnarf>Â Â Â for other simple stuff
<sadmicrowave>   gnarf, kborchers – it is an array initially created in php, then upon selector click I need to send that array to my next PHP page. so: 1) PHP creates the array as $myArray, 2) page loads and var myArray = <?php echo json_encode( $myArray ); ?>; 3) user clicks element and form is dynamically appended to body with input fields then submitted
<quicksilver>Â Â Â gnarf: I find that PHP explode()s whatever i do, tbh.
<gnarf>Â Â Â sadmicrowave: see ?param
<bot-t>Â Â Â sadmicrowave, jQuery.param(obj): Create a serialized representation of an array or object, suitable for use in a URL query string or Ajax request. http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.param/
<DualDetroit>Â Â Â To complete the show, I need to pass through some arguments to the event handler.
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â hey, gnarf , any chance you could give me some guidance on the widget I’m doing? This is what I have at the moment – just doing the foundation at this point : http://pastie.org/2671728
<gnarf>Â Â Â ccmonsters: in a meeting atm
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â no problem.
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â gnarf, I don’t think param is what I’m looking for, $.param() puts the array elements into URL format, I want to put the array into a format that I can use as an input value
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â ?demo @ sadmicrowave
<bot-t>Â Â Â sadmicrowave, Please create a live (working) demo of your problem on http://jsfiddle.net or provide a link to your site with instructions on how to reproduce the issue.
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â ccmonsters, I’m asking for an idea not for someone to fix my problem, I just need some keywords to search for
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â unlike most people, I can use google
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â lol
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â $.param and $.deparam should do the trick
<kborchers>Â Â Â sadmicrowave: so if i understand you, you just need to get that “array” from one PHP page to the other via POST, correct? In one single posted element?
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â kborchers, yes
<kborchers>Â Â Â ok, so just put quotes in your JS around what you are echoing and keep it a string. Assign that to an input, and post it. then on the php side you should be able to json_decode that string into an array
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â is he asking a php question?
<destinydriven>Â Â Â can I load an page being populated via ajax . . . via ajax on another page?
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â hey kborchers : building a widget, and wanted some input on what I am doing. Maybe some guidance on the style, namespacing etc. http://pastie.org/2671728
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â so ajax a page of ajaxed content?
<destinydriven>Â Â Â ccmonsters, yeah
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â then again they would both be asynchronous.
*Â Â Â ReallyNotHere is now known as NotHere
<destinydriven>Â Â Â ccmonsters, well actually its an ajax page into a ui-tab via ajax
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â I have no clue if that would work. Depends on a few things there. The child ajax page, how do you know when the JS is rendered/content is being grabbed via ajax?
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â kborchers: any chance you can take a peak?
*Â Â Â kborchers peeks
<destinydriven>Â Â Â ccmonsters, I think thats the problem. gonna see how I can work around that. May have to hard-code the ajax stuff from the child page into the ui-tab
<sadmicrowave>   kborchers, the array is still NULL on the next PHP page. Do I need to JSON.stringify() or anything before submit?
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â isn’t the json already in a string sadmicrowave ?
<kborchers>Â Â Â that was going to be my question
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â if so, a json_decode() should do it in php
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â ccmonsters, I agree, and that makes total sense. But json_decode in php is returning NULL
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â i am having an issue with the ‘tweaks’ part on line 35. http://pastie.org/2671728
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â taking json_decode() out returns “{”

<ccmonsters>Â Â Â sadmicrowave: it’s not getting passed as you’d expect. as in its a different variable

<ccmonsters>Â Â Â alkemann: got a sample markup?
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â and what determines that the ‘current’ dt is?
<Gho5t>   sadmicrowave: so what is this then $(‘td.ui-td-recall a.recall’, ‘#BrokerDealApprovalsGrid’).click(function (event) {
<alkemann>Â Â Â ccmonsters: http://jsfiddle.net/BVUXB/6/
<alkemann>Â Â Â ccmonsters: im doing an each(f) on the DTs

<kborchers>Â Â Â i would name j and d something a little more descriptive
<alkemann>Â Â Â ccmonsters: so $(this).siblings(‘dd’); gets me all, how to narrow it down to just the relevant ones is the Q
<kborchers>Â Â Â i haven’t done too much like this but do you really need to pass window and document in?
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â i grabbed that from stackoverflow, and it’s posing a problem if i invoke that way, because I need the user to be able to pass in some ‘tweaks’, so not sure how to do it with that syntax
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â ?nextUntil
<bot-t>Â Â Â .nextUntil([selector]): Get all following siblings of each element up to but not including the element matched by the selector. http://api.jquery.com/nextUntil/
<Gho5t>Â Â Â what doe sit mean when 2 selectors are listed like this:Â $(‘td.ui-td-recall a.recall’, ‘#BrokerDealApprovalsGrid’).click(function (event) {
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â Gho5t, I’ve only ever used commas in my selectors outside of quotes to reference an element I want to search in for example: $(“#div1″, this).somefunction… will search for “#div1″ within ‘this’ exactly the same as $(this).find(‘#div1′).somefunction…
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â ?nextUntil @ alkemann
<bot-t>Â Â Â alkemann, .nextUntil([selector]): Get all following siblings of each element up to but not including the element matched by the selector. http://api.jquery.com/nextUntil/

<Gho5t>Â Â Â ok so it will search within the object
<alkemann>Â Â Â ccmonsters: sweet thanks
<kborchers>Â Â Â i also see a potential problem with this version > j.fn.jquery if j is undefined
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â how do I pass in ‘tweaks’ kborchers ?
<alkemann>Â Â Â <3 jQuery for thinking of my needs
<kborchers>Â Â Â ccmonsters: can you define tweaks?
<Gho5t>   sadmicrowave: so in my case is it the same as $(‘#BrokerDealApprovalsGrid td.ui-td-recall a.recall”).click(function (event) {
<Gho5t>   sams as $(‘td.ui-td-recall a.recall’, ‘#BrokerDealApprovalsGrid’).click(function (event) {
<Gho5t>Â Â Â *same
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â tweaks are jsut the user overrides
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â options to extend with defaults for the widget customizations
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â http://pastie.org/2671728
<kborchers>Â Â Â ccmonsters: also, i could see users having and issue with you a) pulling in jQuery for them and b) pulling in a specific version of jQuery so it would have to be updated in source to upgrade
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â Gho5t, I think so. there you will be searching for ‘td.ui-td-recall’ and ‘a.recall’ within #BrokerDealApprovalGrid’
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â kborchers: i made some stuff more description, check it out now
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â well, i want to pull in jquery if they don’t have it
<sadmicrowave>Â Â Â Gho5t, please verify that as I’ve never used it in that manner
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â for the sake of this widget.
<Gho5t>Â Â Â ok
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â want to make it as painfree as possible, so just pull it in
<kborchers>Â Â Â ccmonsters: probably better to just say that this widget requires jQuery .. i would not like it doing it for me. maybe just my opinion though
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â ok, well that aside. How do i get the ‘tweaks’ from the user in, with this model?

<kborchers>Â Â Â snax: wat?
<snax>   webdev5: I thought this is client side programming. what server is required?
<webdev5>Â Â Â jquery is javascript
<snax>Â Â Â I need a web server just to develop the pages?
<webdev5>Â Â Â your webpage has to link to the jquery library
<MrDimn>Â Â Â Snax:Â You code the pages as you normally do, and include a link to the jQuery library, which will be loaded into the client's browser.
<snax>Â Â Â oh ok.
<snax>   so when the client makes a request, do they get java script? In other words web browsers don't konw jQuery directly. this that correct?
<snax>Â Â Â s/this/is/
<MrDimn>Â Â Â Correct.
<webdev5>Â Â Â yes if the user has javascript enabled then they can view the jquery functionality
<MrDimn>   You have the jQuery library on your web server. Within your web pages, you make a link to that library. When the user views your web page, the jQuery library is download, and all the functionality you programmed will be processed by the browser
<snax>   So i'll need an apache plugin to verify what I'm coding. I can't just open my html files from the browser.
<MrDimn>Â Â Â No...
<MrDimn>Â Â Â You should be able to run the web page in your browser, but you may have to put a file path to the jQuery library or call the library which is hosted by jQuery.

<lduros>Â Â Â I need to find a function that parses a date from ISO string to add to a custom script, any advice on where to find one?
<lduros>Â Â Â i guess i'll just make one myself, regexp isn't hard
<lduros>Â Â Â ![]()

<s34n>Â Â Â when I set the css height of body within an iframe to 100%, it exceeds the height of the frame because it tacks margin onto the 100%
<s34n>Â Â Â I want to keep the margin, but I want the total height of body, including padding, border, margin, etc. to be 100% of the frame
<s34n>Â Â Â Can I do this in css? Or do I have to resort to js?
<monstaRtruck>Â Â Â hey guys i have some html formatted text
*Â Â Â RJD22|away is now known as RJD22
<jeffsmykil>   I have a fairly noobish question. If I want to have settings for my script do i just use a global variable or is there a better way?
<JaxCodeMonkey>Â Â Â s34n: You'll need to do some math in JS.
*Â Â Â c4rl-afk is now known as c4rl
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â such as defaults and the like
<JaxCodeMonkey>Â Â Â jeffsmykil: There are numerous better ways than using global variables. Checkout Cowboy's post about IIFEs. http://benalman.com/news/2010/11/immediately-invoked-function-expression/
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â cool, thanks!
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â does what im looking to do have a standard name JaxCodeMonkey
<JaxCodeMonkey>Â Â Â jeffsmykil: Not that I'm aware of. I've always just called 'parameter defaults' or something.
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â I see
<jeffsmykil>   JaxCodeMonkey: in the jquery plugin authoring tutorial they use an object. no good?
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â Uncaught TypeError: Object #<HTMLDivElement> has no method 'append'
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â what is going on..
<ftwordring>Â Â Â Hello all, I'm trying to implement changing the id of a div that may not exist on the page yet. Is there a way I could delegate that?
<JaxCodeMonkey>Â Â Â jeffsmykil: You can use an object like they suggest regardless of how you are implementing your defaults, depending on the scope you're trying to achieve. An object is not a bad idea.
<ponty>Â Â Â dogarrhea2_, just had the same. close the bracket ).
<JaxCodeMonkey>Â Â Â dogarrhea2_: your htmldiv.append() needs to be $(htmldiv).append().
<ponty>Â Â Â is there a browserplugin where i can enter live jquery code?
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â both the element and the elment being appended have brackets
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â and $
<JaxCodeMonkey>Â Â Â sorry, meeting time. be back later.
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â http://pastebin.com/h0H30VHh
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â still wondering why it's a no method 'append'
<warrenparsons>Â Â Â ponty: It's not a plugin, but http://jsfiddle.net/ might do what you're looking for if you want to experiment with code.
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â oh nevermind
<ftwordring>Â Â Â How would I go about delegating document.getElementById()?
<neurodrone>Â Â Â Does anyone know of a way to live-edit javascript in Chrome Devtools or Firebug?
<warrenparsons>Â Â Â ftwordring: $('.ancestorElement').delegate('click', '#myId', function(){ // blah });
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â Uncaught Error: NOT_FOUND_ERR: DOM Exception 8
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â ugh
<ftwordring>Â Â Â thx warren, that looks like what I was searching for
<ponty>Â Â Â neurodrone, i guess we both asked the same question ![]()
<ponty>Â Â Â thx warrenparsons
<neurodrone>Â Â Â (:
<phrozen_>Â Â Â hello, why if I send post in first form then I have 2 answers, but at the second form I have 1 alert(1 answer)? http://www.mtechnology.itl.pl/js/
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â mixing jquery and object orientation is annoying
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â u do't know what to add $( to
<neurodrone>Â Â Â ponty: And you seem to have found the answer already, while I am still looking around for mine.
<phrozen_>Â Â Â dogarrhea2_ who?
<m910q>Â Â Â I have made an ajaxSuccess on my page, and it works just fine. But when using Opera, there is nothing called options.data on the options/settings variable. Does this object come from the browser?
<jeffsmykil>Â Â Â what about an xml config file? bad idea?
<ponty>Â Â Â neurodrone, no. i ll just try what warren told me: It's not a plugin, but http://jsfiddle.net/ might do what you're looking for if you want to experiment with code.
<simple__>   i'm trying to do a custom submit, using     $('#uc-cart-view-form').submit(function(){$.post($(this).attr('action'), $(this).serialize(), function(html) { }.   This is working, however, my data is which is suppose to be 'items[0][cart_item_id]‘=65 is posting as ‘items%5B0%5D%5Bqty%5D=1&’  any parameters i can add to stop this??
<neurodrone>Â Â Â ponty: Oh I see. Well yea, jsfiddle and jsbin fulfill ones needs if they are based on minor testing. I, OTOH, have to debug dependent parts of a big live site. They won’t serve my purpose for now.
<m910q>Â Â Â neurodrone is the javascript inline?
<neurodrone>Â Â Â m910q: Yes. Inline JS.
<m910q>Â Â Â You can edit a page in Opera and apply it, and it will reload everything. Just a suggestion

<affect>Â Â Â guys, I have a json data object that gets created using selectors (http://pastebin.com/is4np3WG). was there a way to append something to it (e.g. if it was a get request I’d add a +’&foo=bar’)? should I use add or push or something?
<MagusOTB>Â Â Â Is it possible to select things by their data attributes?
<neurodrone>Â Â Â ponty: Cool! Looks like that might work for me. Taking it for a spin rightaway..
<neurodrone>Â Â Â m910q: Thanks for the Opera suggestion. Might pick it as a last resort.
<ponty>Â Â Â neurodrone, me too. lets hope its good

<simple__>Â Â Â how do i send form data with $(form).serialize(); but when i have form items labled “item[0][data]“Â Â Â it seems to turn the [] to rubbish?
<jbrokc>Â Â Â how do I use .ajaxStop to check and see if a certain Ajax call has finished, and not fire when the page is done loading?
<cypha>Â Â Â in jquery.template, I’d like to be able to use ${myvariablefromjson}, which I received from this script returning JSON from the server–> https://gist.github.com/3e253b04d1ebf4bb7cd5
<snax>Â Â Â To use jquery, I just link my web browser to jquery-1.6.4.js correct?
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â is there an update id cascade thing in jquery?
<dogarrhea2_>Â Â Â when i update the parent id, all child elements update their id’s too?
<cypha>Â Â Â snax, no
<Cameron>Â Â Â if you go here and choose $300: http://vermilionsite.com/phone/index.php?id=1
<Cameron>Â Â Â how can i make that div with the big iphone in have a magnifier?
<Cameron>Â Â Â like http://jdbartlett.com/loupe/ but with the div rather than images
<snax>Â Â Â cypha: is jquery-1.6.4.js the library ?
<cypha>Â Â Â yes, but it needs to point at the location of the file
<cypha>Â Â Â did you download the file?
<snax>   I wget’ed it. I have to point my web browser at it.
<cypha>Â Â Â snax, you have to point at the local address
<snax>   cypha: I don’t know what that means. Is that a firefox setting, or is that done in index.html ?
<cypha>Â Â Â index.ht l
<cypha>Â Â Â index.html
<snax>Â Â Â include it like I would with any javascript module ?
*Â Â Â NuckOff is now known as Nuck
<cypha>Â Â Â or you can do something like this
<cypha>Â Â Â <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.2.6/jquery.min.js”></script>
<snax>Â Â Â thankx
<cypha>Â Â Â so it gets it form google
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â wtf is wrong with this syntax? sorry, my brain is shot so I’m drawing a blank – http://pastie.org/2673209
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â just xml
<cypha>Â Â Â of course, use the correct version
<wib>Â Â Â or get a newer one
<cypha>Â Â Â in jquery.template, I’d like to be able to use ${myvariablefromjson}, where ‘myvariablefromjson’ was returned from the server using this script–> https://gist.github.com/3e253b04d1ebf4bb7cd5
<cypha>Â Â Â how can I do this?
<cypha>Â Â Â to make the variable avaiable to jquery.template
<saba>Â Â Â I’ve got some code (that I unfortunately cannot paste) written for jquery 1.4 that I’m trying to run in jquery 1.6.4, however it fails with error “b.handleError is not a function”. This is due to the ajax rewrite that was done in jquery 1.5 I believe. Does anyone know of this error? My .ajax call is very basic, with a success handler and json specified dataType. Then some conflict occurs.
<cypha>Â Â Â saba, use jquery instead of jquery.min
<ccmonsters>Â Â Â SO what’s up with this xml ? http://pastie.org/2673209
